How to make a living wreath
Betty H. demonstrated ...
She showed us how to make this wreath just in time to make a beautiful living wreath for Fall (perhaps even for Christmas).
To demonstrate, she used the following materials:
Chicken wire 12 x 36 inches.
l block of oasis floral foam.
Spaghnum moss (Approx. a grocery bag packed full).
Green plant material i.e. ivy, vinca, hens and chickens, nuts, berries, caribou moss, small plants, houseplant cuttings, etc.
a round tray.
Method:
Lay wire flat and spread 1 layer of moss on top cut oasis into 8 sticks and soak in water. Lay these end to end down centre of length of moss. Overlap side to side enclosing moss and oasis and fasten. Curve the resulting sausage to make a circle, fastening ends This should now be a firm moss base. It may require extra moss poked in if there are loose places. Now place on a plastic or metal round tray. Insert greenery through chicken wire into oasis and add whatever seasonal material you have available. Betty inserted a wide candle into the centre space.
Do not allow to dry out and it will live for many months with the addition of fresh material as seasons change.
